Half of the month has already passed and new opportunities are presenting themselves every day. I just wanted to let you know a few things that I’m especially excited about at the moment…
1. Gluten-free living: For the next 21 days, I’m going gluten-free! I will be a community leader for Udi’s Gluten Free Foods for at least a month, so I want to fully experience the lifestyle. Yes, the timing is a bit off – with it being Thanksgiving next week and all – but I’m up for the (self-imposed) challenge. If you have any interest in gluten-free topics at all, please join the online Live Chat Launch Party tonight at 10pm EST. We will be discussing gluten-free recipes and other gluten-free lifestyle tips. Prizes, including a $150 Williams Sonoma gift card, will also be up for grabs. You can find the full details of the chat at the Udi’s community site.
2. She Posts: I read a lot and She Posts is one of my blogging “daily reads”. Recently, the site underwent some ownership changes and shared that they were adding new writers. I’m happy to say that I’m going to be a contributor for their site. I’ll primarily be writing about NYC/East Coast women bloggers, events and news, so definitely let me know if you have any great story ideas! (For my first post, I wrote about the Microsoft Holiday Open House that I attended last week. Suzanne and my friend Heidi of Techlicious really did a great job hosting a smaller, informative lunch for women bloggers after the larger Open House.)
3. Harlem News Group: I love sharing information online. However, I know that there are still a lot of people who prefer physical newspapers and magazines. I have been learning so much about food as “Foodie City Mom” that I reached out to the publisher of the four (Harlem, Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens) community newspapers that fall under the Harlem News umbrella to see if they needed a food columnist. (I wrote a weekly column for them a couple of years ago as their Family Editor.) The timing worked out and I’ll be writing a “Healthy Foods” column two times a month for them. I’ll be writing about CSAs, farmers markets, healthy recipes, shining the light on innovative community food programs and such. It will be great!
I can’t wait to see what the rest of the month holds. Have there been any fun happenings on your end?

congrats on the new gigs! Looking forward to learning more about happening in the harlem area as a Harlem based family
Kudos on that gig especially
Thanks Nikki. I was living in Harlem when we first had Sean so it holds a special place in my heart
Kimberly, I was wondering if you'd be so kind as to keep us all updated as to how the gluten-free diet is going, and whether you feel any different. I know many people who've embarked on that lifestyle, usually because of allergy or sensitivity. But there are many other good reasons people choose to eat one way or the other. I've tried avoiding bread and yeast, and that's worked for me in the past. I've come back to bread again and again because I like it so much, but right now I just can't have bread. Or, I limit it to a few times a week.
I will definitely do that!
